The Sunday problem
The toboggan does not run on Sundays. The classic Monte day is cable car up and toboggan down, and on a Sunday the second half of that plan does not exist.
The alternative is walking, a bus or a taxi back down, which is a perfectly reasonable morning and is not what anybody came for.
Where it ends
The run finishes at Livramento, not in central Funchal. Getting back into the city afterwards is a separate journey.
Three-person rides are withdrawn in rain or wet conditions, so a wet day can turn a group of three into two rides.
