The facts

The walk

PR14 runs 7.2 km, source: Visit Madeira, read August 26, 2026 from Fanal down to Curral Falso, both on ER 209, and the tourism board gives 3 hours, source: Visit Madeira, read August 26, 2026. It drops from 1,090 m, source: Visit Madeira, read August 26, 2026 to 840 m, source: Visit Madeira, read August 26, 2026 through laurel forest thick enough to close over the channel.

Wet is the normal state here. Winter is when it looks best and when the footing is worst.

Doing it with PR13

Both trails run off ER 209 and both are point to point, so a two-car or taxi shuttle solves them together. The one-day combined rate of €9.00, source: IFCN, 2026, read August 26, 2026 covers two or more trails and beats paying €4.50, source: IFCN, 2026, read August 26, 2026 twice.

Each trail still needs its own dated timeslot on SIMplifica. The combined figure is a price, not a pass.

What is not perfect about it

Point to point on the same road as PR13, and frequently muddy. The forest that makes it worth walking is the reason the ground never fully dries out, and boots that were fine on a levada in the south will not be fine here.

Questions people actually ask

Is Levada dos Cedros muddy?

Frequently. It runs through dense laurel forest that holds moisture, and it is wettest in winter, which is also when it looks best.
